TrelleborgVibracoustic extends plant in China

Today, TrelleborgVibracoustic, the world’s leading automotive supplier for anti-vibration solutions, inaugurated the extension of its production plant in Yantai, China. By doubling its production capacity in Yantai (Shandong province), the company is serving the needs of the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The total investment of TrelleborgVibracoustic for buildings, facilities and machinery in the extended production space of 8,000sqm will amount to 200 million Yuan (25 million EUR). In addition to chassis mounts and commercial vehicle air springs the site’s 380 employees now are also producing engine mounts and torsional vibration dampers for local and global OEM as well as Tier1 suppliers. The Yantai site presently has more than 16.000 sqm, comprising R&D capabilities for tooling and process design as well as manufacturing and assembly.

“Noting a sales increase of almost 40 per cent in Yantai for next year and expecting further solid double digit growth rates for China going forward, we are continuously expanding our local capacities. With our new state-of-the-art production units and well-trained employees in Yantai, we have a broader basis to serve our local as well as our global customers in China even better”, Hans-Jürgen Goslar, CEO of TrelleborgVibracoustic, said at the opening ceremony.

“Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the local authorities, contractors and suppliers we were able to speed up the process of building and finishing the annex to our plant and start production at ‘Yantai II’ very fast”, added Dr. Matthias Sckuhr, the company’s president for China/Asia Pacific. “Of special importance is the good talent pool available in the region. This enables us to build up our skilled workforce further”, he said.

Apart from Yantai, TrelleborgVibracoustic has a facility in Wuxi (Jiangsu province), comprising the R&D centre for the Asia-Pacific region and the production of chassis and engine mounts as well as isolators and dampers, employing more than 1,000 people. Going forward, TrelleborgVibracoustic is preparing for further growth in China.

The Chinese automotive industry is still growing above proportion. With around 20 million vehicles manufactured in 2013, it is by far the largest vehicle-producing nation in the world. Until 2018, a production increase to over 30 million vehicles is expected.

TrelleborgVibracoustic is the leading provider of anti-vibration solutions for the global automotive and commercial vehicle industries. Founded as a joint venture by Freudenberg and Trelleborg in 2012, the company generated sales of approximately 1.7 billion Euro in 2013. TrelleborgVibracoustic has around 10,000 employees at 39 locations in 19 countries who develop and produce powertrain and chassis components for automotive vibration control.
